This August, Earth Conservancy received a $1,200 AML/AMD Reclamation award from ARIPPA to help support the development of a wayside exhibit at its Askam Borehole AMD Treatment System in Hanover Township. The project will work with staff from EPCAMR and students from the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in the exhibit’s design.
Organized in 1989, ARIPPA is a nonprofit trade association of alternative energy plants that remove coal refuse from AML areas, convert it into alternative energy, and use the ash byproduct in reclamation projects. ARIPPA’s mini-grant program awards $5,000 annually to organizations and agencies working to improve the environment and quality of life for communities affected by pre-regulation mining in Pennsylvania.
